Wendy Percival

Wendy Percival has been making and teaching art for over thirty years. She graduated with a BA in Art (Antioch, USA) and later attended the Montserrat School of Art. She has also worked as an apprentice in studios in Paris and Kyoto. Her preferred art mediums are printmaking, painting and pottery. She has experience teaching a wide range of art media and has lived and worked as an artist in Samoa since 1986. During this time Wendy has gained considerable experience teaching art to children, youth and adults and has also conducted art therapy programs with disabled persons, the elderly, victims of abuse and persons with mental health issues.

Galumalemana Steven Percival

Galumalemana is a revivalist heritage artist, and a professional photographer and videographer. Recognised for his research and advocacy of Sāmoa’s rich natural and cultural heritage, he has built up a body of work capturing the indigenous ecological knowledge of the Samoans. Interested in the impacts of globalization, he has also produced an extensive visual record in photographs and video productions of the social discourses in Samoan society, exploring such issues as climate change, health, and human rights, winning him the 2024 Samoa Hurman Rights Champion Award (Media). Together with his wife Wendy, a highly accomplished multidisciplinary artist and art educator, he established the Tiapapata Art Centre Inc. in Samoa over thirty years ago. Operating as a charitable trust, this unique space for creativity and artistic innovation promotes traditional and contemporary arts and crafts.

Staffan Laurin

Staffan Laurin is Artist in Residence from Sweden. Born in Masterby, Gotland. 

​

Staffan travels the world as an Artist in Residence for studies and work. He has exhibited solo and as a member of a collective in Sweden, France, Germany, Turkey, Laos and Samoa. Public works hang in Stockholm, Gotland and France. 

​

Staffan's work is represented in the Swedish National Museum and in the private collection of King Gustav VI Adolf. His work is also in public schools, hospitals and other similar venues. A collection of his pottery made with his wife Helena Andreeff Laurin is displayed at the Sheraton Hotel in Apia Samoa.

Helena Andreeff Laurin

Helena is an Artist in Residence from Sweden, born in Stockholm. 

​

Helena studied at the Art studies at Konstfacksskolan in Stockholm from 1960 to 1965. Helena travels the world together with her husband Staffan as an Artist in Residence for studies and work.

​

Helena exhibits her work annually, solo and as a member of a collective in Europe, Laos and Samoa. Her public works are featured in Stockholm, Gotland, France, Liberia (portrait of president Tubman 1970) 

​

She is also represented in museums, hospitals, schools and a number of private collections.

Artists in Residence

The Tiapapata Art Centre Inc. invites artists and volunteers who wish to work and assist with art education programs at the Tiapapata Art Centre to apply for a position as either an Artist in Residence or a Volunteer.  Both positions will require the applicant to assist with art classes and workshops at the Centre and the extent of this service will be determined on a case by case basis.
