GREEN PAPER PROJECT

Paper making at the at the Tiapapata Art Centre utilises plant and tree fibres found in Vaisigano Catchment Area with cotton rag and waste paper added. This initiative is supported under the Green Climate Fund Vaisigano Catchment Project managed by the Civil Society Support Programme.

PAPERMAKING EQUIPMENT

A large Hollander Beater, the Monster Critter, capable of processing 4.5kg of plant fibres, waste paper and cotton rags was purchased from Lander Critters in Christchurch, New Zealand. This same company also supplied all other items required for the paper making facility to be operational:

* Stainless Steel vat, 1000mm x 850mm

* Stainless Steel vat, 1500mm x 1160mm

* 100 deckles and molds capable of making paper 857mm x 640mm

* 10 deckles and molds capable of making paper 1315mm x 1125mm

* Smaller aluminium deckles and molds 

* Vacuum table for 857mm x 640mm deckle and mold

* Vacuum table for 1315mm x 1125mm deckle and mold

* Felts and press roller for small to large paper sizes

* Bandsaw with blades for cutting cotton rag

* Stripping machine 

* Hydropulper - a 200L bin fitted with motor and thrashing blade

* Gas cooker with regulator and large pot

A smaller Hollander Beater, the Little Critter, capable of processing just under 1kg plant fibres
